Abstract

Working mothers are one of the factors that hinder exclusive breastfeeding, while the number of female workers continues to increase every year. Exclusive breastfeeding is a health behavior that can be influenced by many factors. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors that influence exclusive breastfeeding in factory worker mothers in the Wonoayu Sidoarjo Community Health Center work area. The factors studied were knowledge, attitude, availability of facilities, support from superiors and support from colleagues. This study was a descriptive analytical study with a cross-sectional design involving 65 working mothers. Samples were taken using simple random sampling technique using a questionnaire. Data analysis used univariate and bivariate (chi square) analysis. The percentage of exclusive breastfeeding in working mothers was 67.9%. The final results of this study showed that the variables of knowledge (p = 0.043), attitude (p = 0.018), availability of breastfeeding facilities (p = 0.007), support from superiors (p = 0.009), and support from colleagues (p = 0.188). Further research is expected to design a behavioral intervention program for providing exclusive breastfeeding, as well as adding other factors that can influence mothers working in factories in providing exclusive breastfeeding.
